"Ice Cream Bar" Cards, Finally Done!

Finally finished my latest set of cards! I notice that as I make more and more cards, my courage to start over and make something better has increased. Before, if I wasn't happy with a drawing, I'd just live with it because drawing seemed so hard, but now, I can improve my drawings until I'm satisfied and I'm much more proud of the result.

Halo-halo, a Filipino desert with ube (yam) ice cream.

I had a lot of fun making these cards and I really hope people will take an interest in them. Most of my recent orders are customisations which is not bad, it just feels nicer when someone buys something you drew because it made you happy.

Work In Progress: "Ice Cream Bar"

I'm working on a set of cards that I plan to call "Ice Cream Bar" and there's a pretty obvious reason for that:

I planned to make my aunt a set of party-themed cards for her birthday earlier last week. It was going well until I suddenly went crazy making the illustration of ice cream toppings above which led to a strong desire to create a whole new set of cards.

As for the non ice cream designs, I'm saving them for a party-themed set,  I might get crazy about in the future. Right now, I'm crazy about ice cream, so I'll work on that. One always comes up with the best things when crazy. Most of the time.

Work in Progress: Fashionable Doctors

My grandmother is probably my biggest customer next to my mother (who bought thirty plus boxes last Christmas), and she is really maximising the customisation service. This is the second box she's ordered with specially made drawings (the first is Calendar Girl). She wants to give it as a gift for her fashionable doctor friend. So sweet and cute in a funny way.

I've been putting this off for a while, but I'm actually enjoying it now. I'm also finding that when I enjoy working on a project and don't pressure myself about how it will turn out, it turns out better.

Here are some of my favourites so far:

Finally Up!

My website is finally up and running! I've been planning this for weeks and after many trials and errors. This is what I love about graphic design and drawing though: it's very rewarding. All the effort I put into my work is so worth it because it yields better results.

Maybe it's a little excessive of me to still be blogging here, I tend to take in more than I can chew: I already have another blog which is dedicated to writing and anything that sparks my intellectual curiosity. This blog, however, is dedicated works in progress (WIP's) and any announcements regarding my little cards business and perhaps even graphic design misadventures.

You see my problem: I love to compartmentalise.

I guess this also serves as an art portfolio for me. I already have a Behance account, but it takes forever to load on my browser and I have to load it several times to get the full site (third-world problems), besides, it's always great to have a room of ones own. I keep thinking that nowadays. Actually, ever since I heard of Virginia Woolf's essay "A Room Of One's Own" though I've never read it... whoops! That's for another blog.
